For those of you lucky enough to get tickets - CatchCon 2011 is this Saturday, April 9th. If you want to meet other folks going, check out the Deadliest Catch Group - CatchCon 2011. However, if you can't make it, you can still check it out! The entire event will be… Continue
The F/V Cornelia Marie has returned home to its resting place in Kodiak, Alaska. The Captain and crew have all returned safely from a successful Opilio crab fishing season.
I will leave it up to the "Deadliest Catch" editors in regard to what you'll see this year. But… it wasn't a boring year. It was a year of change that tested men and machinery…full of excitement, bad weather and injuries. However, we never loose sight of what's most important.. that everyone… Continue
The FV Cornelia Marie will start its 2011 Opilio season in just a couple more days. Here's a picture of the gang from yesterday getting together before they all head out into the Bering Sea. You can see Jake and Josh in the yellow and orange rain gear having a laugh. Thanks to Cindy Harmer for finding this pic and to Keith Colburn for letting use this image from… Continue
A new year brings new changes on the FV Cornelia Marie. I wrote about our King Crab season here, where you can read about our past crew which included skipper Derrick Ray. Now, the Cornelia Marie has a new captain - Tony Lara. But, Tony is not new to the… Continue
In the video above, Capt. Jim Wilson talks about being stuck in St. Paul with Capt. Phil and the Cornelia Marie this year while crab fishing. Jim was on of the guys Phil wanted to take his place when he had his stroke in February. Jim is currently the skipper of the F/V Cornelia Marie while our boat finishes its salmon tendering contract in Alaska. This video features Phil's good friends telling stories about him and was made specifically to raise money for the… Continue
Tonight we say "farewell" to our skipper, Capt. Phil Harris of the F/V Cornelia Marie. I expect Discovery will use great sensitivity in telling the story of Phil's last hours.
I guess in one respect we're all in the same boat together. We all have similar feelings in regard to tonight episode of “Deadliest Catch”. My Mom and even Josh don't really know what to expect on the show.
However, Josh and Johnathan were on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” last… Continue
Last year, Discovery Channel taped "After the Catch" in San Diego. While Capt. Phil and the rest of the Captains were there, I received a phone call from a fellow named Peter at the Naval Medical Center. He said he read a report about the Deadliest Catch captains being in town to videotape a special show. Peter wanted to know if Phil and the others would be interested in stopping by the Prosthetics department where he worked. He said all the guys he… Continue
Unfortunately, many of you were unable to attend Capt. Phil's public memorial on April 30, 2010 on the the Seattle waterfront. Hundreds of fans turned out for a cold evening at the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91.
The event was webcasted live by Discovery Channel and then was available to watch in its entirety directly after the event. However, the next day the video of the…
The Seattle Fishermen's Memorial Service was on May 2, 2010 at Fishermen's Terminal. Today was a "Service of Remembrance" for fishermen lost at sea. The Ship's Bell was rung for every name being added to the Memorial plaques or tiles. One of the new Memorial Tiles included our skipper, Capt. Phil Harris.
The Ship's Bell was also rung for Capt. Robert Royer, the skipper of the F/V Northern Belle… Continue
On April 30, 2010 Discovery Channel will be hosting a public memorial to pay tribute to Capt. Phil. The memorial will be the day before CatchCon and located at the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91 in Seattle. Jake and Josh will speak about their father. In attendance I would expect Sig Hansen, Johnathan & Andy Hilstrand and Keith Colburn. I would imagine other captains and deckhands will also be in attendance. My mom, Cornelia Marie Devlin may also be there to support the… Continue
The premiere episode of season 6 was the highest rated "Deadliest Catch" in the history of the series. Our boat, the F/V Cornelia Marie and crew played a large part in the opening episode. The premiere showed Josh and Jake not getting along and Josh thinking about working on another boat. It's very hard to work for your father as the Skipper and your brother as another deckhand. I know, this is what I did on the Cornelia Marie. In fact, I did take a break from the… Continue
The new season of “Deadliest Catch” started yesterday, April 13th. This is the sixth season of DC and the fifth season in a row that the Cornelia Marie is featured. The first episode had a lot going on. On the Cornelia Marie, it showed Josh and Jake not getting along and Josh thinking about working on another boat. It's very hard to work for your father as a Skipper and your brother as another deckhand. I know, this is what I did on the… Continue
The F/V Cornelia Marie has been out of commission since the middle of February with a replacement of our "reduction gear" needed. This has been a costly and burdensome repair. The entire crew has been off since Capt. Phil's memorial on February 21st.
Finally, the crew is headed back to Alaska to finish up the long Opilio season. We still have a couple of trips left to meet our crab quota. Unfortunately, most of Alaska, including Dutch… Continue
The season premiere of "Deadliest Catch" will be April 13, 2010. This will be the sixth season of the "Deadliest Catch" and the fifth season that the "Cornelia Marie" has been featured on the show. The television crew from Imagine Productions boards our boat during the fall for King Crab season and then after New Year's to videotape the Opilio Season. They videotaped the King Crab season on board with Capt. Phil and the crew. In fact, the King Crab season included a… Continue
Discovery Channel hosted a memorial service for Capt. Phil's family and friends today. It was an event most agreed Phil would have loved. F/V Cornelia Marie crew members flew in from the Bering Sea to join former crew members and other Bering Sea captains. Many of the "Deadliest Catch" boat captains were in attendance to pay their respects to their friend and fellow fisherman. The Alaska Crab fishing fleet is close knit and many fishermen know each… Continue
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. - Jake and Josh Harris
It is with tremendous sadness that I say goodbye to Phil Harris. Phil and I have been business… Continue
